There are a lot of new and amazing features found on the iPad. Now that you’ve had time to play with your new toy for a while, it’s time to check out a great feature I discovered.

My favorite thing to do on my iPad is to read books. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with reading traditional ink and paper publications, but they are expensive. The large screen the iPad has, along with the fact I don’t have to carry books everywhere makes it a fun thing for me to do.

One option for finding a place to buy and view books is to use the iBooks application from Apple. You can download it at the Apple store easily. Anyone who has used this service will tell you that it is expensive and the selection isn’t the best, and books can easily cost around twelve bucks.

There are a couple of really interesting features iBooks offers that are worth mentioning. First, you can preview books before you buy them, just like at your favorite bookstore. Also, when you turn a page on the iPad, it looks like you are turning a real one.

Aside from that, not much else makes it attractive to me. I bought two books, and they cost so much that I reached my spending limit for the month and had to quit. I tried surfing the web to find other alternatives, and even asked Apple if they had another source for cheap books, and I had no luck.

After a lot of research, I was surprised to discover a service that blew my mind out of the water. Not only do they have an incredible selection of titles, but they only charge one fee, and it is good for life. I don’t have to worry about paying for individual downloads again. I’m sure once you learn about it, you will enjoy the benefits as much as I did.

They offer a very large selection of books and newspapers as well as magazines and comic strips. Anyone looking for a cheap alternative to expensive iBooks will be impressed.

Want an ebook reader or netbook? Do you think the Apple Tablet will defeat the stand alone ebook readers?

People are being inundated with cool gadgets from handheld ebook readers, mini-laptops, pc tablet and smart phones. As monitors become larger and considerably better on these systems, the demand for stand alone ebook reading tools could possibly diminish. Which means multifunction gadgets may become more popular. Low cost ereaders that do not have any network functions; could become less expensive products. In the same way the $ 300 mini netbook has grow to be the earliest notebook that was a perfect gift idea for children or became contraptions to take on vacation. Those netbooks are usually a good value and can often be quickly replaced if perhaps missing or broken.

Do you know what, they are quite likely correct too, with the allure of the Apple brand, it really is tough imagining ibooks never being a successful accomplishment. You may never eliminate the traditional hardcover book in today’s modern society and perhaps with Apple’s ibooks it will be a hard time ending the trend of the ebook reader. Amazon.com, Sony Corp, Barnes and Noble and others will have to make the e-bookreader better by adding a lot more options or it’s capacity to perform abilities simpler and easier. Increasing touch screens so they have more colors, high speed wireless, more stereo – movie abilities and online movie watching are some amenities that can make them even more desirable.

There has been enhancements to the Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Nobles Nook. The Nook to an update that included more speed and a battery usage upgrade. Lasting customer service and enhancements for these kinds of devices have grown, tough, the Nook can be challenging if your planning on uploading an internet browser and various apps. It’s discouraging when you are trying do read and do not feel like troubleshooting upgrades so your device can do what you want it to do. The most beneficial Nook software program is the Trook, which lets you retrieve e-books in the Calibre library, along with every day newspapers.

A review of the iPad indicates it is not really a standard laptop or computer as we have come to recognize. Ironically the action which may save it, is the exact identical one which demolished others, like what happened to record albums when compact discs were introduced. iPad Tablets along with it’s multi-colored ibooks and real like page flipping is surprisingly the closest thing towards a true book or magazine that you will get to.

Why have several devices when you can take just one? Our Amazon Kindle review shows it as a device of conveniences with the wireless abilities. However, you got to like the simplicity that high speed broadband wifi gives the Kindle, if you get rid of the additional reading capabilities, similar to sound and a web browser; which may never happen; the purchase price could be less than $ 200. Even so the Kindle eBook Reader or other ebook reading devices are definitely lightweight and smaller as compared with Mini-Laptops. The retail price is roughly a third to fifty percent of the price tag on a Apple iPad. In the end, there is some thing for everyone when it comes to ebook readers.

It appears that the ebook readers appear to have been referred to as a gadget and the Apple iPad is a Tablet PC that has the functionality to browse e-books, magazines and the lots of content that is available online.

From the time when it was little more than supposition the Apple iPad has been one of the most rumored and hyped about gadgets ever. After the official introduction of the iPad by Steve Jobs on January 27, 2010, one of the constant themes in the media coverage has been about how the iPad will make dedicated ereaders obsolete.

Now that the iPad has been out for a while and we have been able to use it we can make some more informed judgments as to what its strengths and weaknesses are. Here I will look at the iPad in terms of how well it performs as an ereader.

First of all, the display of the iPad is gorgeous. The color LCD display is beautiful, the touchscreen is very responsive, and the iPad is quite fast. These features make the iPad not only very good for watching video, viewing photos, browsing the Internet, gaming and other such activities; they also make it very well suited to reading magazines, newspapers, comics and illustrated books.

Magazines and newspapers also benefit from the interactive approach that is possible on a device such as the iPad. Being able to tap a hyperlink to reach more in-depth reading about a story or to access additional illustrations is well suited to reading periodicals.

Reading PDF documents on the iPad with an app such as GoodReader also works very well. Panning and zooming with your fingers on the multitouch display is very quick and works well. Unfortunately, while the iPad is very good for viewing PDF documents, most of the apps are not capable of editing or making annotations. Generally speaking, I have found the iPad to be best suited for viewing content and less well suited to creating and editing content.

But what about reading ordinary books that are mostly if not entirely text? The aspect of reading books on the iPad that I like best is the access it gives you to eBooks from different sources. Besides iBooks, which is the reading app from Apple and which seems mainly oriented to those who prefer titles from the bestsellers lists, there are also the Kindle for iPad app, an app from Kobo Books and a Wattpad reading app. An app should also be forthcoming soon from Barnes and Noble. This gives you access to the Kindle Store as well as to eBooks with DRM supported by Adobe Digital Editions.

The Kindle for iPad app is good as it not only gives you access to the best eBook provider (currently with over 500,000 titles), but will also sync your last read page with your Kindle ereader or the Kindle apps for other devices. This is also the only eBook reading app at the moment that lets you take notes on your reading.

While the iPad does work very well for reading illustrated books and magazines, there are some drawbacks to using it for reading regular books that are all or mostly text. First of all, at one and a half pounds, the iPad weighs considerably more than most ereaders. This fact makes it less portable and less comfortable to use in some situations. Holding the iPad with only one hand does not work very well. If you commute by public transit, it will be harder to use an iPad on a crowded train or subway car.

Most ereaders with e-ink screens have a battery life measured in thousands of page turns and usually need to be recharged every ten days to two weeks. The iPad battery lasts ten to twelve hours.

The iPad is pretty much unreadable outdoors in the sunshine. In a shady location outdoors the screen is readable, though you will probably find yourself tilting the screen to find the most glare-free position. There have as well been early reports of the iPad overheating when used in sunshine. Dedicated ereaders with e-ink screens are perfectly readable outdoors in sunlight or shade – if you do a lot of your reading at the beach a Kindle would definitely be a better choice than the iPad!

Some of the dedicated ereaders such as the Kindle have a free 3G connection you can use to browse and purchase eBooks and then download your selections directly to your ereader within a few seconds. With the iPad Wi-Fi obviously you will need to be able to connect with a wireless network. With the 3G version of the iPad (which starts at over $600) you will need to pay a monthly fee for the connection.

Only iBooks (which only has 60,000 titles to start) will let you purchase eBooks from within the app. If you are using the Kindle for iPad or another ereader app you will be dropped into a browser to shop the app’s eBook store rather than from within the app itself. When finished shopping you will have to restart the reading app. This can be less convenient and involves more steps than buying books on the Kindle. This is not a big issue for me, but some users do complain about it.

There are lots and lots of things to do on the iPad. This is a good thing… but it also means that there are always lots of things to distract you from your reading.

In my case the worst thing about using the iPad as an ereader is the backlit screen. I can stare into my computer monitor up to 12 or more hours a day – browsing the Internet, working with documents, playing games and the other things most of us use our computers for and usually I do not suffer from eyestrain. However, I have never enjoyed reading more than a few pages of an eBook at a time on an LCD monitor. Reading a book is different than browsing the Internet or working with documents because books are made up of long unbroken blocks of text.

I find that the iPad does cause eyestrain for me when reading books. Turning down the brightness level helps but it does not solve the problem, at least for me. Most of the reading apps on the iPad include a “Night Mode” feature that gives you a light colored text on dark background (as opposed to the conventional black text on white background) that does help reduce eyestrain in my case. Still, I have both dedicated ereaders and an iPad and I usually prefer to read books on the e-ink screens of the ereaders, which are no more tiring on your eyes than reading paper. I usually use the iPad for reading books that are unavailable on my particular ereaders. There are also occasions when the backlit screen can be advantageous when reading in a dark environment.

For casual readers who usually only read for no more than 20 to 30 minutes at a time the iPad will probably be fine, but if you typically read for longer periods at a sitting it may be uncomfortable for you. How much eyestrain reading long blocks of text on a backlit screen causes will vary from person to person, but for most people reading a book for an hour or two on an LCD screen is probably going to be an unpleasant experience.

While the iPad is a wonderful gadget and has many uses, when it comes to reading eBooks I think that it will probably work best for occasional or casual readers. If you read a lot you will probably find that it is not as good as a dedicated ereader for reading eBooks.

Steve Jobs announced yesterday during his keynote presentation at WWDC 2010 that the new iPhone 4 will be able to run the free iBooks app currently for use only on the iPad. Syncing your place and highlights in books will be enabled between your Apple devices, making the iBooks application more like the Amazon Kindle.

When I first bought the iPad, iBooks was one of the first apps that I chose to download. This is significant only because I had up to that point been completely opposed to the e-reader movement. I consider myself a traditionalist when it comes to my reading, preferring the texture of the pages, the ability to dog-ear my spot in a book, the self-satisfied feeling I get when looking at a particularly large tome after I have finished reading it. Each of these were aspects of the reading experience that I was loathe to give up.

However, the times, they are a changing. I purchased and listened to my first audiobook – ever – on iTunes for my iPod Touch last fall and fell in love with the amusing intonations of David Sedaris reading aloud his book Me Talk Pretty One Day as I went about my daily run. Audiobooks have become somewhat of a staple for me now. It seemed equally important to try out my first e-book experience on another Apple device. I was not disappointed, and now wonder about life before my iBooks app.

In an effort to be fair, I decided to download and try out the free Amazon Kindle app on my iPad as well. Even my obvious devotion to all products Apple aside, I have to say that I found iBooks to be a much better e-reading experience. Apple went all out in trying to make the e-book experience as close to real life as possible. Your books are downloaded from the iBooks store to your iBooks bookshelf. When you open a book to read it, the design of the e-book page looks like a page in a real book.

The Amazon Kindle e-reader is definitely less flashy and smooth looking. You have to log into your Amazon.com account to purchase and download your books, which just doesn’t seem as seamless as the iBooks store. When you select a book, it downloads to the homepage of the Kindle app. The appearance of the book once opened is simply a full screen of text, much like a pdf would appear.

Though I have come to really enjoy using my iBooks reader, I will say that neither the iBooks nor Kindle readers could ever rival the experience of reading a real paper book, but I do enjoy the ability to download new books whenever I want to, without having to go to the library or the bookstore. There’s a definite convenience factor to the e-books. The books are not cheap, however, so I primarily stick with reading the free classics that are available on iBooks (there are also free classics available on Kindle). There are frustrations, like the inability to easily flip to any page, but those are also the differences that will continue to keep real books my first choice for reading.

Accessing Flash on an iPad using VNC?

I have a new 62 GB 3G iPad, and I really like it. The only thing I DON'T like about it is the lack of Flash functionality. Despite Steve Jobs' praise for HTML5 (and antipathy for Adobe) most websites are not going to dump Flash to convert to that protocol, at least not overnight. One “work-around” that has been suggested to me (so that I can view my favorite Flash-dependent site, Marvel Digital Comics Online) is to use a VNC client. There are three that have iPad apps that I'm aware of: LogMeIn Ignition (this app costs $30!!), iTap (which costs &12) and Mocha VNC (the cheapest, at six bucks.) All other things being equal, price matters, but are they equal in functionality/quality?

(For instance, I understand that with LogMeIn, I can VIEW Flash sites on my iPad through using Safari on my Mac, but there is NO sound. That's no biggie for me, as the Marvel site employs only graphics, but are there any other limitations on any/all of them I should know about?

Then comes ease of use? Are they equally reliable?

Finally, what about ease of configuration? Is any one of them easier/more difficult to to install? How is their customer service/support? Mocha DNC has a free “Lite” version, but it has no support. I'm willing to pay for their full version (at $6.00, it's still the cheapest option) to have support, and am willing to go 12 or 30 dollars for one of the other two apps, if they're demonstrably better.

Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks in advance for the help!

More and more people are wondering where they can read comic books online. The digital versions of print publications of this highly enjoyable and addictive medium, after all, have grown in prominence in recent years, with the advent of comic book readers and portable computing devices like laptops, iPhones, iPods and the Apple iPad.

When trying to discover where to read comics online, one must remember a particular day when these digital format files are released.

Wednesday is usually (san the occasional holiday) New Comics day, when new issues arrive at your local comic shop. It’s the time of the week that is always red marked by sequential art aficionados all over the country, and all over the world for that matter.

This is the time of the week when the likes of Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, the X-Men, Green Lantern and other superheroes embark on their newest adventures (or continue their quests from previous months, as the case may be). Whether the heroes are up against the specter of the Blackest Night, or banding together to defeat a Siege, or fighting against one another in a Civil War, Wednesday will always be the day when the newest chapters of the greatest stories are published, delivered and revealed.

Whether people like Spiderman comics, or Superman issues, or old comics of Captain America in World War II, there will always be something for different people come Wednesdays.

Wednesday has, thus, become what is known as 0-day in the digital comics community. 0-day is when printed comics are converted into digitally distributable formats like CBR, CBZ and even PDF (though the former 2 are preferred). With comic book reading programs like CDisplay for the PC, Comic Zeal 4 for the Mac, and Stanza for iPhones, iPods, and iPads, enjoying these digital comic formats has become very easy and convenient.

The sole question that remains is this: where exactly can you read comic books online?

1f6b

The website http://www.ComicBookDownloads.info offers a variety of Marvel, DC, Image and Dark Horse comics for download, and their library is updated every week.

For years the world speculated whether or not Apple Inc. was going to release a tablet computer. Rumors ran rampant if even Apple was developing a product like that or not. Then in April 2010, Apple shocked the world with the release of the revolutionary device. The Apple iPad introduces a brand new way of doing things on a tablet computer, instead of a traditional stylus, the iPad is completely controlled by a users finger. Comes with a beautiful large screen, and can even double as a e-book reader. The question is whether this product is worth the wait, or just another hyped up piece of technology people say we should buy? Let me tell you my friends, this is the real deal!

After being available for pre-order in early March 2010, the world was eagerly waiting to get their hands on the brand new device. During its opening weekend release, the Apple iPad sold over 700,000 units! Very impressive figures considering most people did not exactly know all the device could do. What makes the iPad revolutionary is the multi-touch interface it has built in. Everyone knows good and well how to use their hands and thats all the prior knowledge you will need in order to manipulate the device. Apple took the software platform they perfected touchscreen interface with from the iPhone, and up scaled it to the iPad. The tablet looks amazing with a very sleek and simple design. The screen takes up just about all of the front besides the Home button, and the back seems to be crafted well out of aluminum. The device weighs in at about 1.5lbs and does not feel cheap at all, a staple in Apple production, it feels durable, but at the same time light enough to carry at any angle. The screen though is the main focal point of the iPad coming in a beautiful 9.7 inch LED back lit IPS. The colors are vibrant and very pleasing to the eyes. Apple has toted this device as an E-book killer. Meaning once you read a book on the iPad, you will not want to do it any where else. And by all means its very true, you can adjust the brightness on the fly depending on your personal preference and the text shows up well on the big screen.

If you aren’t familiar with “apps”, these are the applications that Apple along with many other 3rd party developers create for Apple products. But why buy an ipad when you can get a free iPad? Right out of the box the iPad can run just about all of the 150,000 apps currently available for the iPhone and iPad Touch. Truly something for everyone. Along with many special apps developed just for the iPad, these apps are the REASON you will want to get your paws onto the iPad. From Google Maps to watching streaming movies from Netflix, this device seems to do almost everything your computer can do, all while in a portable shell that’s a visual masterpiece. One cool App comes from Marvel Entertainment with their app that allows you to view eye-candy rich graphic novels and comics that almost play like a movie. The iPad might not be a laptop replacement for everyone, but if you are like most internet users out here who mostly surf the web, listen to music, catch up on news, and play games online, this is the device for you. The best entertainment experience you can have that is portable, trust me.

If you are in the market for a iPad, consider getting a free iPad. Free iPads are available now!.

The iPad has taken the world by storm ever since its release on April 3rd by Apple. It represents a revolution in certain ways since it is officially considered to have introduced a new class of device that lies between a smartphone and a laptop. The iPad is a touch based computing device that runs on a variation of the very popular iPhone operating system with a brilliant multi-touch capacitive LCD display that’s a real pleasure to use.

The iPad is meant for those whose computing needs are light and in our experience we found the iPad to be a total delight when used in the following ways -

Browsing & Email – For those who just like to lounge on their couch or bed, the iPad makes for an amazing browsing experience. The screen looks amazing whether you view it in landscape or portrait mode and the touch response is phenomenal. It’s a snap to pinch-to-zoom and the finger-based navigation is something you’ll fall in love with.

It’s a lot lighter than a laptop and it’s got a fantastic battery life with early adopters reporting battery lives of about 10 hours and in some cases even longer. We also loved the fact that you can instantly switch it on as there’s no need to boot it or shut down. However the one downside is that it doesn’t support flash browsing so you can forget about tending to your plants and animals in FarmVille. However, for any other type of browsing, the iPad is a real winner.

Read Comics & Newspapers – There may be a time when the traditional paper newspaper and magazines ceases to exist and the iPad, with the iPad Accessories, may well be the reason for that as you can download and read newspapers, magazines and comics from the Internet. There are applications that allow you to read The New York Times or USA today and it’s much faster than actually going to their website. It’s also amazing for reading comics since you can press down and have one scene fill up the whole screen – this allows you to read and view your comics in fascinating detail.

Fantastic E-Reader – Reading on the iPad is truly a marvelous experience. The layout is extremely simple and you can flip to your library in the portrait mode in a really cool way. You’ve got a chapter button, and different font size options along with a search drop down option too. It’s easy to adjust the brightness and the page turning animations are just plain sexy. You can do a long press to call up the copy/paste function or bookmark the page or bring out the dictionary or search options. All in all, it gives you a wonderful reading experience and makes you feel as if you are actually holding a book in your hand.

Pure Speed – One of the features we love best about the iPad is the user interface. It’s the same interfaces as the iPhone but it’s backed up by a faster processor. If you are used to operating the iPhone then you’ll be blown away by how fast the iPad is. It’s blindingly fast and there’s no sluggishness or slowness at any point. The super fast user interface is unlike anything you’ve experienced – it leaves desktop computers and netbooks in the dust.

The number one place for all your iPad Accessories. All of your iPad Accessories are available at the iPad Accessories Hub.

Is the HP Slate tablet computer REALLY canceled??

I've read all kinds of articles concerning the cancellation of the product over the past hour, and not once have I read that HP had OFFICIALLY announced that the Slate was canceled.

Although there does seem to be some evidence behind it, I still have very high hopes that the HP Slate will make its way into a Staples or Best Buy store near me. I want it more than anything right now!!

I do not want to get any other tablet computer other than the HP Slate; especially not the iPad, which I think is a horrible product.

There has been much talk about the launch of the iPad to the public earlier this month. Why buy iPad tablet when you have that trusted iPod or iPhone? Well I will let you be the judge of that as to whether you need an Apple iPad tablet. This article looks at 10 reasons why you may take out your wallet and purchase this new gadget on the market.

1. Hello Bloggers! If you love to blog and are regularly writing posts on the go, this latest tablet is definitely worth considering. It’s lightweight with an excellent touch screen that allows you to type until your heart is content. It makes sense to carry an iPad instead of a heavier notebook?

2. Internet Connection. The iPad gives access to immediate Internet connection. So wherever you are, you have access to the net. Again it’s good for convenience especially if you find yourself using the net frequently on the go. You will like the browsing capabilities courtesy of the Safari browser.

3. Electronic reader with a bit more. If there was one thing I found analyzing the iPad’s capabilities in comparison to other readers like the Amazon Kindle or iPod for audio books, is that Apple’s latest tablet delivers when it comes to reading digital comics. The Kindle and ipod are not able to read the comics as well as the iPad.

4. Cost. You would have thought an Apple product to be highly priced? Well think again. The iPad is affordable. You can get a 16GB WiFi tablet for $600.

5. Cool for Photography. If you enjoy photography and have the camera accessories, you can present your images on the go. The tablet shows excellent color and graphics, so you can be sure your images will look crisp.

6. Using the iPad for Business? The iPad tablet has a revamped iWork. So you can create documents, presentations and spreadsheets with ease. Each application costs less than $10 and comes with an excellent interface.

7. Newspapers and Magazines. With the new tablet you can read on the go in color. The iPad integrates reading media all into one.

8. More applications and still growing. You have over 150,000 applications for the iPad and more. Many applications for the iPhone and iPod work with the iPad tablet. There are specific iPad applications that impress. For example, as a comics fan the Marvel comics application is superb. Now you can read color comics and zoom in and out of images with the flick of the screen. Purchasing new comics is easy too.

9. Compact design. It’s light, easy to carry with a powerful processor. Like me, if you travel a lot, this is an ideal partner.

10. Accessories. There is no shortage of accessories for the apple tablet. A physical keyboard, a variety of cases and stands, and camera adapters for SD cards. You can kit out your tablet based on your needs.

The new iPad does impress. Before you buy iPad tablet, be sure to check out this site for some great deals.
